DREI FRAGEN with Sue Bardwell

Each Wednesday I ask a different artist the same three questions.

This week’s featured artist is Sue Bardwell, a shining light in the Swindon art community. As well as being a fantastic artist, she teaches, runs workshops and fairs, and does a lot of work within the community. We are both based at Artsite Studios, and she’s always a joy to chat with!

1. What first sparked your interest in creating art?

I have been drawing for as long as I can remember, there is a very early photograph of me as a child with an old ice-cream tub full of felt tips, I used to draw women with big earrings who were pregnant!! My mum and dad and brothers were always making and creating so it must have rubbed off on me.

2. What are your regrets?

I wish I had used my time at college more wisely and appreciated having the freedom to be creative every day!

3. What wisdom would you offer someone beginning their art career, or exploring art for the first time at any stage in life?

Don’t wait to have enough time or space to be creative, just start doing it and you will find time and space.

Action equals motivation and it’s only by making the first steps that the inspiration comes! Also do lots of art, not only do you get better practiced but you worry less if something doesn’t work out!
