This painting is a tribute to my late mum, capturing a quiet and cherished moment as she enjoys a slice of gypsy tart. I wanted to preserve her warm, gentle expression, with her short brown hair framing her face and those striking blue eyes that always radiated kindness. She’s seated at a table opposite my wife, who took the photo during a special day trip. Despite the challenges of being reliant on 24/7 oxygen, this moment captures her joy and contentment. It’s a snapshot of a rare, happy day, where the simple pleasure of a favourite treat brought her a sense of normalcy and happiness.
Through this painting, I wanted to immortalise not just her likeness in my art style, but the resilient spirit she carried with her, even in difficult times.
