Biological Father (2020) β 29.7 cm x 21 cm β Alcohol markers on white paper
I still don’t know the full story behind why my biological parents decided to entrust my care to my grandparents. They were both 19 when I was born prematurely, weighing under 3lbs. I can only imagine how challenging that must have been for them.
Admittedly, I have harboured resentments towards my biological father, but this drawing was my way of forgiving him, acknowledging that he had his reasons and story surrounding what happened. The past is in the past, and I am grateful to him for my life and well-being today. π
Staring into the eyes of his photo for this piece was cathartic. Itβs a photo of my dad in Greece with my stepmother, Heather. I know they both find peace there, and I wish them all the peace in the world.
