Weekly Art Practice #16. Painting at last.
…I know, it’s a bit dramatic.
But I feel like all of this promotional stuff has swayed me from the creation of art, which is THE thing.
On to this week’s occurrences…
P.S. If this piece is too long for email, you can read it here in Substack. Or download the app.
Thank you for joining me in my art practice for this week.
Truly, I do enjoy sharing what’s going on in my life and artistic world over the past 7 days. But I often feel that I’m just doing random, non painting things so I can write about it in my weekly art practice. I’ve lost touch with actually making any art! Which is the main thing I enjoy and what it’s all about 🙂
That said, I got down to the studio and had the best 90-minute painting session, including prepping a couple of canvasses.
The red and green piece, I painted over with orange paint ready for a new piece. It’s fun knowing what was once underneath. Only you will know this!
Then, a couple of evenings later, I did some painting at home after putting my daughter to bed. Absolute bliss!
I had a nice glass of wine, put some Max Richter on and painted for about 90 minutes before my wife came home after work.
Allow me to explain the direction without giving too much away, I read this wonderful post by and it reminded me of the power of staring into another human’s eyes, with no agenda and no talking. It’s a really powerful experience once you get past the initial awkwardness of it.
I painted a piece called ‘Fighting with Picasso in 2022’ which felt quite powerful. I’m staring Picasso straight in the eyes as you can see.
So, with Sarah’s post and my previous work, combined with my signature complementary colour scheme, I started painting pairs of figures staring into each other’s eyes. My intention for the viewer is to see the work and realise the power of real connection through eye contact within this virtually connected world.
Also, I had a little paint sesh this morning after a stressful time with my daughter being poorly. I went full Dubuffet and mixed my daughter’s leftover Weetabix into the orange paint mix.
Making use of Amazon packaging.
I’d like to invite you to see me paint in my studio tomorrow on YouTube, check it out here. Click the ‘bell’ to get notified.
There’s no strict RSVP or anything, just come along if you’re free. It’s automatically recorded if you can’t make it live.
Thanks for listening.
Best wishes,
SLART
