Studio time is precious.
2024 brings a new direction in my art and how I share on Substack.
I have paused my podcasts as I am happy with the number of recordings that I’ve shared so far. I may create some more art-specific podcasts in the future. You can check out the podcast archive here.
Wednesdays: I’ll write about my Art and life stories and lessons learned.
Saturdays: I will share my art practice from the past week. (This will be exclusively for paid subscribers).
You can get a complimentary month (or more) of Cream of The Crop by sharing and getting (at least) 3 referrals (Free or paid) get your unique referral link here. Or you can upgrade to paid here.
Thank you,
Dearest paid subscribers,
Thank you so much for joining me in my art practice this week.
Having been unwell for the past 6 days, I have been at home recovering. So, I’ve made use of the materials available (as I’ve been unable to attend my art studio).
First, I’ve been using my canvas and watercolour pads with the available paints. With limited orange, blue and brown paints I had at my disposal, I found a tube of orange oil paint, two tubes of blue watercolour paint, and a tube of brown acrylic paint.
I loved the colour combination and the beautiful curves of these pieces. The dark blue contrasts the light orange pop with a bold, brown accent.
Second, a package came last week with a piece of card folded in three places, so I created a three-sided painting.
You can’t see too well in the photos but the way the oil paint repels the watercolours is beautiful.
Experimentation is exciting because you go down a path and in creating something new, you get more ideas on how this can be applied to other pieces. It could be a large-scale sculpture or a hanging sculpture, for example.
Here’s a higher-res version of my favourite side:
I don’t normally create any digital artwork or photo manipulation, but I was looking through my Google photos recently and had an idea. Indulge me for a moment, you know when you buy a new car, you see that car everywhere? Since I have been using orange and blue complimentary colour combinations, I’ve been experiencing the same thing with these colours. So, I took sections from the photos that contained orange and blue from 2016 until today and made a photo collage (It happened to be 2016 and I searched “Orange and Blue” in Google Photos and it took me back to that year). I may get this printed on a large-scale board or canvas.
Thank you for joining me in my art practice for this week.
