The World’s Greatest Artist: SLART’s Weekly art practice 44.
…THE ABSENCE OF LIMITATIONS!
Orson Welles said that.
SLART’s Note: Every Saturday, I share my art practice over the past 7 days. I’m fascinated by artistic practice – it’s not just about creating art but the entire process. From influences and ideas to materials and skills, each artist’s unique approach shapes their work, making it more than a finished piece. Just imagine having a weekly update from your favourite living artist. How cool would that be?
If this piece is too long for email, you can read it here in Substack. Or download the app.
Memento vivere at the Crypt Gallery progress report
So, I’ve been doing bits where I can find the time. I tend not to do things in any logical order but I do things regardless. This week I’ve spent a bit of time on a video which is a kind of teaser for Memento vivere.
The video looks OK so far. I might give you a sneak peek before it’s improved and shared more widely.
Ok, you’ve persuaded me! Please let me know what you think.
(Thanks to , and for being part of the video!)
Developing your creative practice
I had the DYCP (Developing Your Creative Practice) Zoom call on Friday, it exceeded my expectations!
In my mind I wrote a good first draft, well, it’s OK. However, after this seminar, it needs a lot of refinement. For instance, every item you add to the budget within your project plan needs to exist to further your development as an art artist, so you have to really think about how it’ll support your future career and not simply put things there for the sake of it or on a whim. When budgets are written in my experience and there’s an upper limit, it’s easy to fill this up with things that are nice to have but not really needed.
I’ll share the link to the recording when it’s out next week so you can have a look If you’re interested and based in the UK.
Here’s a couple of screenshots from my notes.
Above: Julie Lomax, what a lovely, helpful lady! She has read through 1000s of applications over the years and is sharing her best tips with artists who need funding application support.
The SLART Etsy store is LIVE
Please go and check it out at www.etsy.com/uk/shop/stevenlightart
I’ve had an Etsy account since 2020 and nothing has happened with it. My mind has gone from it being “not arty enough of a platform” to “I need to do whatever it takes to sell my art, so stop limiting myself”. So I’ve set it up as a separate print shop. Selling my art prints as well as some unreleased collage creations and inspirational quote prints.
Note: At the time of writing, there’s only 1 print there! But there will be more. It’s not much of a shop with 1 print now is it?!! 😀
Postcard marketing test
Not really a test, well it is kinda. I got some free credits to send out postcards as well as one greeting card. So I sent some to people who have bought my art already, and some faculty of The Courtauld Institue of Art in London directing them to my Etsy store in a fun way. See below:
It’s actually a really good deal as you can send A6 sized postcards for 82p each, this is including the postage, which is now £1.64 for a first class stamp in the UK.
Something to explore in larger quantities down the road I think. People like a physical object rather than seeing social media ads!
That’s all for now.
Best wishes and deep blessings,
Have the best week!
SLART.
