The deep power of 1980s Cartoon Theme Songs
“There’s a power that comes from deep inside of you. ‘Cause every day you’re reaching toward the light. And you know there’s a long long way ahead of you. But when your wheels get you there, Things will turn out right!”
Jayce and the Wheeled Warriors
Who knew that Jayce and the Wheeled Warriors were so deep?
As a man of forty two years of age, an artist, a father, a husband and a bit of a tech nerd. I have been visiting Nostalgia Town in the form of 1980s cartoon theme tunes.
I have found power and energy from these songs that I hadn’t heard for probably over 30 years. A time in life when I had no worries and I could watch cartoons on a Saturday morning, totally absorbed in the action, the music, the characters, the bad guys and the bright colours – Nothing else existed.
The realisation came to me, that these theme tunes were really hitting me hard as an adult, as childhood was a time when my mother, father and older brother were alive. Today, out of the 5 of us, there’s only me and my brother Matt left (Matt is the brother who heroically gave me his left kidney in 2022).
I cried my eyes out listening to the Jayce and the Wheeled Warriors theme tune whilst driving home in my car the other day:
I thought it was a bit weird that I cried at a kid’s song. But then I saw the comments on YouTube, it’s really resonating with people my age to this day:
The music, the cartoon and the nostalgia combined, holds great power for people roughly my age.
(I feel an art theme coming on…)
Another theme song I LOVED!
The guy sang like his life depended on it!
You must admit, the song works perfectly. It introduces the characters with great passion and zeal, you feel like you can do anything. You relate to at least one character that you want to become! All within 1 minute.
Another fave of mine, I loved both, but I was definitely a Thundercats fan more-so than He-Man.
Last but not least, the show that really stole my soul. It was my absolute favourite. To this day, I still have my Teenage Mutant Hero Turtle figures! They’re at my art studio.
Childhood nostalgia is a powerful force, but as a 42-year-old man, I’ve often felt like I should feel like a ‘grown up’. It goes without saying that I don’t particular enjoy the childhood feelings of shyness that pop up now and again, but why not embrace feelings of childhood nostalgia?
I challenge you to watch an episode of your favourite cartoon instead of wasting spending your time elsewhere online.

Remember, there’s a power that comes from deep inside of you.
