You’ve probably heard of The Jealous Curator, if not, where have you been hiding since 2009?

Just kidding, I heard about The Jealous Curator on the Facebook grapevine a while back, but I never really learned what it was all about. It wasn’t until the other day that I decided to search for “Top Art Podcasts” just before embarking on a two-hour and forty-five-minute drive back from Kent, as I was in the mood for some artistic inspiration whilst driving.

I listened to two of the five latest episodes and found it useful, fun and entertaining! The Holy Trinity!

I will share what I know about the format, but of course, you’ll want to check it out yourself soon enough.

So, the wonderful Danielle Krysa set up The Jealous Curator in 2009, she had a young son at the time and wanted to find a way to get back into the art space again, so just started writing about art she was jealous of in her blog, I think, every day. She started feeling more like an artist again and focusing on talking about others’ art made her feel good, rather than jealous.

That’s the genius part, she probably won’t admit it’s genius, but being so candid about this jealousy really helps other artists relax and laugh about it. It certainly made me think, “Wow, I get jealous of people’s Insta feeds all the time, and I normally feel bad about it” but Danielle disarms those feelings of jealousy.

The name “The Jealous Curator” is the very foundation of how the podcast works, she’s super candid about her life as an artist, she asks artists to submit their questions and she shares her wisdom on that topic, then another artist who works as a full-time professional artist comes in and shares their wisdom too. Not only do you get the sense of relief that you’re not struggling alone, but you also get some great ideas and inspiration. Plus, you participate in these practical suggestions as a form of experimentation (I didn’t want to say homework!).

Danielle has inspired me to be more candid in my writing (and art) because you can easily BS yourself when you’re writing to give a more favourable image of what’s occurring in your life 😃

You can see, I’ve got a lot from The Jealous Curator already, and I’ve only listened to two episodes so far. If you’re new to TJC, then I recommend listening to these 4 episodes. I will do the same and then dig into some of the older ones, there’s many there, I think over 200+ if my memory serves me correctly.

Oh, before I go, I forgot to share that Danielle had a similar experience with her art teacher, her’s said something like “I don’t think you should paint ever again” What an asshole! I’m glad you returned to art 20 years later as I did, Danielle!
